Your last line of defence against a flooded basement — make sure it works.
Every drop of groundwater your weeping tile collects ends up in a sump basin. The sump pump's job is to move that water out of your house before it overflows. It's a mechanical device — and mechanical devices fail.
A failed pump during a heavy spring melt or power outage can mean thousands of dollars in water damage in a matter of hours. The right pump, properly installed and maintained, is the difference between a dry basement and a disaster.
We install Pro Flow sump pumps — reliable, widely serviced, and backed by a 5-year warranty. We also recommend annual servicing to catch wear before it becomes failure.
Backup Systems
Sault Ste. Marie storms can knock out power for hours — or days. The worst floods often happen when the power is out and your primary pump is useless. A backup system runs independently, triggered automatically by rising water.
A 12V battery-powered backup pump sits above the primary pump and activates when water rises above the primary pump's float. Operates even during power outages. Battery should be replaced every 3–5 years.
Best for: Most residential basements where power outage is the main concern.
Uses your home's water pressure to power the backup pump — no battery required. Works independently of electricity and never needs a battery replacement. Requires municipal water supply.
Best for: Homes on municipal water that want a low-maintenance, always-ready backup.
Maintenance
We recommend annual inspection and servicing of your pump, backup system, weeping tile, and discharge line. It takes less time than you'd think and is far cheaper than dealing with a failed pump in the middle of a storm. We'll check float operation, test the backup, inspect the discharge, and let you know if anything needs attention.
